Today I spent a lot of time on the phone with a Mom who had a run in with the ESE school based specialist and was told she is "LUCKY" to have her child who has Down syndrome fully included in general education in the 3rd grade...
This teacher went on to proclaim she has a Masters in Education, fully knows what inclusion means and is here to tell this mom SHE IS LUCKY her daughter with Down syndrome is fully included. This mom told me all the skills she learned from me to stay calm and think before you talk went out the window and it turned into a cat fight... she was pulled over on the side of the road crying when she called me.
Another mom calls to tell me her child who has Down syndrome is not aloud to be in the programs after school. She wants her child in multi cultural club and they said they really have no more space and lost the sign up paper for the child when it was placed into the teachers mail box. I guess this MOM ISN'T LUCKY.
